About Me

Hey there, I’m Shefali!
I design products, conversations, and experiences that make technology feel more human, and hopefully, a little more delightful.
My curiosity for design and technology started long before I had the words for it. Growing up across India, from Assam, where even basic healthcare and tech were rare, to Mumbai, one of the country’s biggest IT hubs, I saw firsthand how access (or lack of it) shapes everyday life. I knew I wanted to help bridge those gaps.
That curiosity took me to Manipal University Jaipur, where I studied Electronics and Communication Engineering. In my very first year, I stumbled across a UX course on Coursera, and that’s when everything clicked. From there, I dove into YouTube tutorials, tried out design tools just for fun, and took internships to turn ideas into real, useful products.
Wanting to go deeper, I moved to the US to pursue my MS in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.
Currently, I’m a Conversational AI Designer at Rocket Mortgage, where I blend design, linguistics, and technology into experiences people can literally talk to. It’s the perfect mix of my love for problem-solving, storytelling, and tech.

Mentoring Experience
🎨 SI 307: Introduction to UX Design
I got to teach over 130+ undergrads in an Intro to UX Design class at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, helping them with portfolio building, design thinking, and getting the hang of Figma. Each week, I ran discussions with smaller groups of about 50+ students, created lesson plans, graded assignments, and walked them through hands-on tutorials on Figma and UX research. It was awesome seeing their excitement and growth along the way!
💻 SI 206: Data-Oriented Programming
I guided over 190+ undergrads through a Data-Oriented Programming course at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, helping them build a strong foundation in Python and explore more advanced techniques. Every week, I led interactive discussions with around 45+ students, creating topics that connected Python to real-world scenarios and practical applications. Watching them go from “Wait, what’s a variable?” to solving complex problems was the best part.
